Posting an aviation job can mean updating a company careers page, copying the same information into several job boards and then keeping track of applications arriving through different channels. Candidates get the other half of that problem: searching across websites and trying to work out which roles fit their qualifications.
That was the starting point for AvPosts, the Canadian aviation job board we're building with VOL and Shaan Bhanji. AvPosts is part of the VOL portfolio, with ForIT building the technology behind it.
Shaan brings both aviation technology experience and an employer's perspective as Fast Air's VP of Growth & Strategy. He's helped define the problems AvPosts should solve, gathered feedback from employers and tested the application process himself. ForIT turns that input into the working product: the public board, employer accounts and the steps that connect an application to a hiring team.
Start with the work employers already do
In our early conversations, the practical idea was to bring aviation vacancies together and give employers a way to display their jobs on their own websites. A company should be able to maintain its hiring information without repeatedly rebuilding the same posting in different places.
Shaan also pushed us to think beyond flight crews. An aviation employer might need an avionics technician, a dispatcher, a finance professional or someone to work at an FBO. That helped shape both the language and the scope of AvPosts: employers include operators, maintenance organizations, ground service businesses and aviation technology companies.
The same thinking applies to candidates. A pilot needs to understand aircraft, licences, flight hours and base location. An aircraft maintenance engineer needs different qualifications and experience. A job title alone doesn't tell either person enough.
We built aviation-specific search criteria and structured listings around those distinctions. Where the source provides them, a listing can bring together qualifications, location, compensation and working conditions. Missing information should stay visibly missing.
What the posts on AvPosts actually are
AvPosts compiles aviation job listings from supported public employer career pages and brings them together with jobs posted directly by employers. The aim is to make opportunities easier to find without requiring candidates to check every company website individually.
The source matters. A listing collected from a public careers page isn't the same as a job an employer has posted through its AvPosts account, so we show where listings come from. A company appearing on AvPosts doesn't automatically mean it has joined the platform or endorsed it.
Employers can claim their company profile, manage their presence and review applications. They can also display their AvPosts jobs on their own careers page through an embed. The public board and the employer's website become connected parts of the hiring process.
Shaan found the gap between a listing and an application
While using the Fast Air careers embed, Shaan flagged a problem: clicking to apply was taking candidates back to the company's website. We had made the job easier to discover, but the next step still sent people around in a loop.
His feedback helped drive the move to applications directly through AvPosts. Candidates can now keep a free profile, résumé and cover letter ready, review what they're sharing and submit an application. Verified employer members review the submitted information in their applicant inbox.
Once applications started arriving, the next problem became concrete: candidates need to be able to express interest even when an employer hasn't claimed its profile yet. Shaan raised that too.
AvPosts now saves those applications privately while employer access is established. The candidate sees that their application is awaiting the employer; only verified employer members can access the profile and documents. Saving an application doesn't mean the employer has read it.
The technology has to carry the handoff
ForIT builds the connections between the public job board, company profiles, employer verification and application storage. The site uses Next.js and server-rendered pages, so job information is readable web content with stable links people can share and search engines can discover.
Each application preserves the profile and document versions submitted at that moment. Updating your résumé later doesn't silently rewrite an earlier application. Both sides can work from the same submitted information.
Candidates can also send a general application through a company profile when there isn't a suitable open job. That records interest in an employer without pretending a vacancy exists.
Employers can claim a profile, post jobs and review applicants for free. Optional promotion, distribution services and compensation insights sit alongside that core workflow.
Where AvPosts fits in VOL
VOL's new website gives the wider portfolio a clear home, in English and French. Alongside AvPosts, it introduces AvRegs for Canadian aviation regulations and Digital Reservation for the path from a charter quote to a signed, paid reservation. Owner Portal is marked as coming soon.
Shaan has been developing Digital Reservation separately, and its product walkthrough shows the work: trip search, quote delivery, access verification, electronic signature and payment. Putting those screens on the site makes the purpose of the software easy to understand. It also shows the practical aviation experience he brings to our work together on AvPosts.
Each site has a useful role. VOL introduces the products and the people they serve. AvPosts is where candidates search and apply, and employers manage their hiring. Here at ForIT, we're sharing how we build the technology behind that experience.
Building it with the people who will use it
For us, the value of the VOL partnership is the working conversation with Shaan. He can try a feature from an employer's perspective, spot a missing step and bring that back to the development team. The change from a careers-page link to a complete application flow is one result of that collaboration.
Our ambition is to build Canada's best aviation job board. We'll earn that through useful listings, clear application status and employers being able to act on the interest they receive. We're still improving those details as people use it.
